Shortcut for "Lock" - allow previewing of chords easily

Please add a shortcut for “Lock”.
I am forever locking and unlocking so that I can preview chords before entering them in.

Re Previewing Chords:
I would be nice to be able to preview chords more easily in general, perhaps on hover etc. HookPad seems to assume I know which chords to enter in next - when I bet 90% of users are creatively experimenting with chord choices - yet HookPad likes to add chords, doesn’t let you drag and drop to rearrange chords (yes copy, insert, paste etc. is a terrible workaround), disallows previewing chords easily - a missed opportunity.

Yes I know you can select a chord and then change it, thereby trying out all sorts of combinations, but is not ideal. E.g. I want to swap a chord so select it, magic shows me some possibilities, But first I want to hear the previous chord again for context, so click on it - now magic shows different chords, yikes I’ve lost access to the magic chords I want. So I can’t actually preview the previous chord plus a possible new magic suggested chord without clicking on and hearing the old chord I want to replace.

Hi, thank you for the suggestion! After Hookpad’s next update you will able to toggle the lock button with “P”

Thanks for that - the latest version 2.32.10 now has ‘p’ as the shortcut according to the hover hint.

But pressing ‘p’ causes play/pause, and uppercase ‘P’ shows the piano keyboard. So the shortcut isn’t working for me (Mac, Chrome or Safari - both act the same).

Yes, we changed the shortcut to “G” as “P” was already taken for YouTube stuff. I forgot to change the label. I’ll fix that right away. Sorry for the confusion!

@DSchwachhofer Hello! I appreciate being able to preview chords and notes, would it be possible to similarly preview progressions?

When unlocked it drops them in, but nothing happens when I have the track locked.

Thank you for your idea. Let me try to rephrase your request in my own words to see if I have understood it.

You want to have a way where you can try out different chord progressions for the same melody without overwriting the one you already have? Basically a way to transcribe alternative melodies/chords which you can then swap out?

The idea is not bad, most DAWs have a way to do this. Some DAWs like Ableton even feature a non-linear way to write music where you can create little clips of music which can be reused and combined in scenes. The problem is that Hookpad isn’t set up for stuff like this at all. This would be a very big project for us. I’ll add it to our feature list nevertheless.

Regards!
