Open from disk- what file format?

Newbie question- can you open a recording you have saved as MP3? What format should the file be?

if you saved the project to disk you would have saved it in JSON format. you would have EXPORTED as MP3 or WAV.

Thanks very much, sorry I should have clarified, I’ve saved a song I played on bass via my phone and its a mp3. Do I need to save this as a JSON file to load it into Hooktheory? Or can’t the software do that?

Hi and thank you for your question.

Currently you can’t load any mp3s into Hookpad. You can import monophonic MIDI files and json files which were created with a Hookpad export.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.

you would want to convert it to MIDI. you could likely find some free online app which could convert it. then import it.

Hi
but it says monophonic midi file, so I guess you can not import a whole song like a mp3 but only a part per time.
greetings

Hi, there are two different concepts mixed in this thread.

  • Open from disk:
Here you can open/upload a song you have created with Hookpad and then saved to your local disk.
  • Import Midi Melody:
Here you can import a midi file which contains a monophonic melody (not a complete song). The melody will then be imported into the melody region of an existing project.

Please let me know if this helped.

Hi,

I saved on of my files to the disc and. i can see the folder and the HTML file but I don’t know how to load it into hookpad, any advice?

Hi,

you should be able to go to “File” → “Open From Disk”, just like in the screenshot above.

But your file should be a .json file, not a .html file. Did you use the “Save To Disk” command you can also see in the screen shot above or did you do anything else?

Regards!
