Group Instruments/Band Organisation

Hey guys. Just a FR. Any chance we’ll ever be looking into grouping instruments?

The new ways that drums are available is very cool. Being able to select a certain element or not means I’m actually using the drum elements now, and I appreciate that we now have an individual clap(!). I wasn’t really a fan of the preset drums previously. And I always wanted a clap.

However, it’d be nice if we could apply groups to sets of instruments, which could be muted/soloed at the same time.

Being able to nest them and close the groups visually would help to keep it nice and clean in an increasingly complex UI as more features are added.
This would also help with band changes and keep it tidier in general when putting together a more complex track.

As well, it’d be nice to place instruments of different categories together, or not necessarily mute all instruments of a specific group. (“Electric flow” and other bass doesn’t really play the same role as sustain bass after all.)

Thanks!

Hi and thanks for FR!

Yes, I agree the grouping we’re having right now could be more differentiated. While it should be enough to separate the four lead voices, harmony, bass and drum instruments are falling short.
I also thought about this and perhaps it would be greater to split those three groups. We could split the Harmony instruments into something like Guitars, Pads, Arpeggiated sounds and perhaps keys and the drums into percussions and drums and perhaps FX.

But I think you’re proposing additional custom groups you could send an instrument to. So in theory we could create let’s say 4 additional groups and give each instrument a button in the mixer view where you can select between default, group 1, 2, 3 or 4.

I’ll have to check what this does to the underlying architecture of the audio engine.

Regards!
Dennis
