[Chord Analysis] Analyzing Raw Vocal Recordings to Get Chord Suggestions

Hi Hooktheory community,

Before subscribing to any of Hooktheory’s services, I’d like to understand if it matches my needs. I’m a complete beginner with no background in western music notation or instruments.

My main requirement is:

  • I want to record my singing (raw vocals) and get chord suggestions to accompany it

Could anyone tell me:

  1. Does Hookpad or any other Hooktheory tool support importing vocal recordings?
  2. Can it analyze melodies from audio files to suggest chords?
  3. Would this be the right tool for someone with no music theory background?

I want to make sure I understand the capabilities before making a purchase decision.

Thanks for your guidance!

you might check out using BIAB to “re-harmonize” after converting your vocal to MIDI (i recommend Melodyne). as far as i know, there is no real shortcut to making it happen without you providing some input on the chords that “might” be correct. another option would be to spend time to analyze your vocal lines, and learn some music theory to help you identify good chord selections, or perhaps partner with someone. it worked for Bernie Taupin.
