ARIA likes to repeatedly generate duplicates of existing content

Hey guys, bit of feedback on ARIA.

To be honest, its ability to produce small variations has been really great for getting creatively “unstuck” or opening up ideas for where to take a piece next, but since the generations per day was reduced to ten, it has been hard to ignore ARIA’s behaviour where sometimes, duplicates of existing melody/chords are suggested - repeatedly - verbatim.
This is the limit to what I can show on my 10" screen in the side panel, but this will indeed happen until I reach my daily ARIA query limit.

Before we were limited to ten per day, I’d just skip these and try re-generating. Now, it’s much more noticeable, because I can’t.

I’m unsure of how this looks on the backend, but perhaps it would be helpful to be able to specifically ask ARIA to generate variations on an existing melody or set of chords, or to generate something distinct and unlike what is currently there, depending on what is desired at the time. This might reduce the number of queries we as users need to discard.

Additionally, I’d suggest that ARIA should be disallowed from suggesting something that exists, verbatim, elsewhere in the project, since a user can easily operate copy and paste  I know it’s been stated how resource intensive ARIA queries can be, and this seems like a waste of resources any way you look at it.

Edit: I should note this particular project also has at least 26 bars of unique melody and chords, that are repeated elsewhere to a degree. I have to wonder if this might help narrowing down the issue! Hope so. Seems to happen more with “less blank” projects. (Which honestly is where ARIA is most helpful - I don’t really use it on blank projects, I have too many ideas)

Thanks as always.

Would like to add that I’m noticing this now also with newer projects.
This one is eight bars long. ARIA copies my bassline multiple times verbatim.

On this note, ARIA appears to ignore the selected active voice’s melody, defaulting to #1 even if it inputs in #2. (In this instance, my bassline is in #1 and I chose to input in #2 - the bassline is copied from #1.)

I have the exact same issue! Aria just repeats whatever chords or melodiesI have already written. I need to stress that this happens when I don’t start from a blank slate. I have written a chord progression and a melody and I am expecting suggestions.

If it doesn’t come up with suggestion what is the point of the subscription team Hookpad?

Unless I am missing something here

probably needs to have a better “random seed” generate (regenerate) function to ensure substantial differentian in new patterns. one key to also limiting the “scope” of the regeneration is some level of “hints” - genre, tempo, chord relations, etc when “guessing” what a pattern should be (hints could be based off the instrumentation collection - my drums are rock, my guitar is pop, my piano is jazz, bass is samba, etc)

Yes, that might be the case. It seems to be working okay when you start from scratch. However, if you have an idea and you want suggestions as to where to take that idea to it just repeats the original chords/melodies you have entered. Maybe a bug…but for me it’a reason to cancel the subscription.

Totally agree. I was feeling frustrated with that too. Also I had other great idea for ARIA. We really need these three features aswell

  1. Input a rhythm and get ARIA to use that rhythm to make a melody over your chords

  2. Have ARIA tell you how to fix your melodies, for example it saying hey if you move this note up to this scale degree it will make your melody have a better tension and release

  3. Even a third idea is to incorporate the metrics part of hookpad into it. Saying ARIA I want a melody that follows these metrics: low complexity, high chord melody tension.
