Hi, I believe this feature has been requested before, but it would be fantastic to have the ability to load an MP3 or play a YouTube video simultaneously while using Hookpad. As a singer, I often use beats sent by producers or found on YouTube. While I know the chords, I’d love to be able to use Hookpad’s features and melody guide with these beats. This would be a great addition for those of us who work with pre-recorded tracks.
Hi and thank you for your request.
In development playing mp3s already works. We just have to figure out a good way to make this accessible for all users. So there is a good chance that this feature will come to Hookpad.

Hi, I’m bumping this, is there any update on this?
I’d like to bump the “Simultaneously Play Youtube Videos” aspect of this request, as that would also be very useful for transcribing!
Maybe the “test the sync” interface could have an extra slider to set the mix, possibly accompanied by a checkbox to toggle it? Setting the slider all the way to the left would effectively work like the orange play button, setting it all the way to the right would work like the normal sync test, and setting it in the middle would play a mix, balanced as desired.
I’m bumping this too! It would be awesome if Hookpad could let users upload an MP3 file and automatically figure out the BPM (beats per minute) of the song. After that, it would be great if we could write or transcribe our music while the MP3 plays along in real time. This would make it a lot easier to work with songs and come up with our own music while hearing the original track. There are other websites that try to do this (like Melody Studio), but they don’t work very well and don’t have the cool music tools that Hookpad does. Hookpad already has a lot of great features for making music, so adding this would make it even better and more useful.
I’m happy to report that we’re just working to bring in external mp3 files into Hookpad. Might still take a few weeks but this will be available soon.
Regards!
Dennis
Looking forward to it!
