I'd like to create lofi music, any suggestions on where to start?

I tried some of the common chord progressions, and added a melody using notes that were in those progressions. I was surprised as it actually sounded pretty good.

My aim is to try and create lofi music, so when it came to selecting a band and instruments, I was not sure where to start.

Does anyone have any suggestions that could guide me, perhaps with chord progressions, but most of all with how to select appropriate band instruments. There seem to be so many to select from that I feel overwhelmed.

id recommend just using hook theory for the chords and melody and for the lo fi stuff use an external program like GarageBand or muse score
