Hi
I wanted to ask you if it would be possible to release hookpad as a standalone application, that we could install on our computers like any classic program.
Everything would be identical to the hookpad Web app, but would also include the possibility of assigning the different tracks to VST synthesizers (if desired) and some audio tracks (for voices, samples, or custom rhythm tracks)
It would be a kind of mini DAW, (which would not be constrained by the limitations of a Web app, and would also be an alternative to a hookpad vst).
Thanks for the suggestion. This is actually something we’ve thought about quite a bit. With modern browsers and more powerful hardware, many things that would have been impossible in a web app five years ago are now very much within reach—so we’ve focused on pushing Hookpad’s capabilities within that framework.
I know you’ve been hoping for a way to integrate audio into Hookpad for some time now, and I want to assure you that this idea is very much on our radar. The challenge isn’t necessarily that Hookpad is a web app, it’s more about finding the right way to implement this cleanly while balancing it with other priorities.
That said, our vision for Hookpad has always been as a sketchpad for quickly ideating and developing musical ideas. While a standalone version with VST support and audio tracks would be exciting, we don’t see Hookpad evolving into a full DAW. Instead, we’ve been focusing on making it work better with DAWs (accelerating stem exports using an offline audio context, improving MIDI integration, and allowing multiple simultaneous exports) so that you can easily bring your Hookpad ideas into a production environment.
Thank you for taking the time to consider this suggestion.
The ability to import audio files even in the web app would already be an extraordinary step forward.
I wanted to clarify a point in my suggestion, I was only considering the possibility of implementing only the support of “synhetizer vst” and in no case of effects or others.
hookpad would keep the same number of midi tracks but would have a few additional audio tracks. I find the sketchpad side of hookpad excellent and that it is one of its strong points, this should not change in any case. My suggestion was simply that its environment be a little more open.
Regarding the suggestion of vst synth support, the idea was to have an alternative to hookpad presets. In my case, I think that being able to synthesize my own patches in the hookpad composition environment would make it in terms of workflow the ultimate tool to materialize the ideas that wander in our heads.
Hi, I would also be very much interested in a standalone app version, just exactly as it is now, but without the need to have an internet connection to run it. I see a lot of potential to use Hookpad as a teaching aid for guitar / piano students, but a lot of times I am teaching in a area where an internet connection is not available.
