Hookpad 2 voicing incompatibility list

A handy list of all chord option pairs that cannot be enabled simultaneously in Hookpad 2 beta (as of beta 9).

  • Third inversions are disallowed on triads:
    • 3rd, 5
  • Inversions are disallowed on extended chords:
    • 1st, 9
    • 1st, 11
    • 1st, 13
    • 2nd, 9
    • 2nd, 11
    • 2nd, 13
    • 3rd, 9
    • 3rd, 11
    • 3rd, 13
  • A note cannot be added and sustained at the same time:
    • add9, sus2
    • add4, sus4
  • A note cannot be omitted and sustained at the same time:
    • no3, sus2
    • no3, sus4
  • An omitted note cannot be the bass of an inverted chord:
    • no3, 1st
    • no5, 2nd
  • A note cannot be omitted and altered at the same time:
    • no5, ♭5
    • no5, ♯5
  • Triads cannot have altered extensions:
    • 5, ♭9
    • 5, ♯9
    • 5, ♯11
    • 5, ♭13
  • Conflicting alterations cannot be present at the same time:
    • ♭5, ♯5
    • ♭9, ♯9
  • Added notes are disallowed on chords containing all scale degrees below the note:
    • add9, 7
    • add4, 9
    • add6, 11
  • Added notes are disallowed on extended chords:
    • add9, 9
    • add9, 11
    • add9, 13
    • add4, 9
    • add4, 11
    • add4, 13
    • add6, 9

  • Suspensions are disallowed on extended chords:

Some incompabilities are one-way, meaning that when one of the options is enabled, the other one visually looks as if it can be enabled as well, but selecting that option will disable the first.
