It would be great if we had a sound for ensemble woodwinds
This would be where the different ranges of contrabassoon, bassoon, clarinet and oboe for the woodwinds were covered by one patch. They wouldn’t have to be perfect. Just using one of the solo instruments such as bassoon covering over three octaves would be close enough.
The strings and brass are not too bad but all three would benefit from having the option between a staccato and sustained articulation.
Hi and thank you for the suggestion!
Are you looking for a harmony patch or a melody patch?
There are staccato and sustained articulations for all of our lead instruments. You can even use a “Smart” patch where all 16th notes are played as staccato and all other notes as sustained notes.
Regards!
Dennis
Sorry, I should have been specific. Harmony patches.
The melody patches are pretty complete.
Ah, yes, I see. So the idea would be to have a patch that plays a full chord with those instruments and each instrument would play one of the four notes:
- Bassoon
- Clarinet
- Oboe
- Flute
I’ll have to think about that. In my experience it’s better to create samples which have all of those instruments in it and fade them in there ranges, rather than having harsh cuts. This would mean that a chord would be played by more than four instruments as some of the notes would be played by more than one instrument, but I doubt you would hear the difference that much when playing a full chord. At least the brass section works like this.
At the moment I have no way to create harmony patches that use either staccato or sustain samples. I could set it up like this, but right now we have no way to set options like staccato/sustain in the band browser, we can just create individual patches like 1 beat-sustain, 1 beat-staccato etc. So in the end our long list of patches would be twice that long. But I’ll keep it at the back of my mind if I’ll ever create another system for the band browser.
The ensemble patches usually do things like play the bassoon from C2-B3, clarinet C3-B4, oboe C4-B5 and flute from C5-C7. Same with the other ensembles with their respective instruments and the chords are spread to match with notes in each range. It varies by the vendor where the actual breaks are and if there is any overlap.
