Why can’t I contribute theory tabs? Is there a reason for this?

Can you tell me in what way you know you can’t edit TheoryTabs?
I’ve basically been banned from editing TheoryTabs, as it stands right now. When I fixed the YouTube sync for a song and tried to submit it, Hookpad told me that my editing privilges got paused because my edits were flagged as spam, and now when I try to do anything like trying to view the edit history of a TheoryTab, it redirects my to the home page with a red error message that I’m not allowed to contribute.
In case you’re facing the same issue, this could possibly be just a glitch in the Hooktheory backend causing people to get arbitrarily banned automatically, or maybe it has something to do with the recent spam/vandalism attacks mentioned the other day.
Sorry all please bear with us. We had to quickly enable a spam filter for theorytab submission process as we are being bombarded with relentless spam (the bots keep won’t stop and keep altering their tactics and they moved to submitting theorytabs and making edits with spam song titles and comments).
We have a good solution that should solve this once and for all, but need to tune the filter and it’s clearly overly aggressive right now. I’ve re-enabled your accounts, but I suspect you may run into the same issue. Hopefully in the next 24 hours we’ll have things figured out.
I will try to monitor any accounts that get blocked from editing and re-enable them.

I’ve just been banned as well, is it possible to re-enable it?

I’ve just been banned again. I tried to submit an edit to a TheoryTab, but I got an error (not one telling me I’m banned), so I assumed it was because my editor note was too long (over 200 characters) and tried to shorten it until it passed, but then I got another error message (I believe 403) telling me I don’t have access to review the content or something, and sure enough, when I tried to view the edit history of a tab, I got redirected to the homepage with the error message telling me I’m not allowed to contribute again. I’m still not exactly sure whether me getting banned again has to to with the 200 character limit, my edit to the tab in question being pretty drastic (and thus giving a false positive of vandalism), or because I’ve contributed quite a lot of new tabs in a row for the past day or so (triggering a spam detector).

try to send an email to the support team. I think the new system is doing more harm than good

A potential solution to the problem of normal users like us getting constantly banned automatically could be to implement some sort of whitelist for “verified” users that applies the old, less strict spam/vandalism filter to them/us, but keeps the new very sensitive filter as a default for newly registered users (that might potentially be spambots or trolls/vandals). The way it currently works, with the filter automatically banning anyone who does anything that raises even the slightest suspicion of spam/vandalism indiscriminately, seems to be be a major inconvenience to both us as well as the admins themselves.
PS: Also a note to the admins: If the current situation keeps going on for too long, this might also chase away many users, potentially causing the community to mostly run dry, with only a select few who are so devoted that they’ll keep contacting the admins to get unbanned (no matter how many times they keep getting banned) staying on the site.

The white list is a good idea. I will look into that!
