It could be really awesome if we could set up a Lead instrument as a kick, snare, crash, etc so we can add that on certain measures without having the full drum rhythm.
@DSchwachhofer I was wondering about this too. I’d like to add a single snare hit to the mix on certain measures. I don’t need a whole new drum rhythm track, just a lead snare, kick, and high-hat sound. I can do this in my DAW, but I’d love to have it in hook pad so I can make sure to light up the emphasized beat pattern with the lyrics. Is there anything like this in the works?

Yeah, there have been some requests in that direction. We can’t create full drum rhythms as we our lead voices are monophonic and full-velocity-only. But it could be used for simple hits or fills or to bring in a special hi hat rhythm etc.
I’m still thinking about how those instruments could exactly look like.

@DSchwachhofer Hey! Thanks for the reply.
Yes, I’m thinking of something very simple. Just one Lead X instrument for snare, one for kick, maybe one for high-hat. These, yes, would have to occupy 3 ‘voice’ channels, to be playing in the same measure, but I see this as more of a compositional tool, to help build up specific melody rhythms. One of the full drum patterns could be substituted for production, later on.
Here’s a picture of the kinds of rhythms I’m looking to create.
As always, thanks for all your hard work!

@DSchwachhofer Please let me know of any updates in this area. I think this one feature would unlock a lot of potential on this platform, making it super easy for people to write melodies to specific rhythm patters. Currently I can only do this in my DAW. But HookPad is far superior to DAWs in terms of attaching lyrics to melodies, helping us lock in the words with the melody. Adding simple drum sounds as a Lead X instrument (even if it takes up 2-3 voices) would make sure that those melodies are locked in with a specific rhythm, making HookPad the clear choice for writing hooks, over any DAW.
