You can emulate this by doing alternating measures of whatever beat grouping your 7/4 is in (3+4, 2+3+2, 4+3, etc). Though, I agree, generic time signatures in general would be great to have, especially if you could specify the beat too, like with the 3/6/9/12 measure lengths we have now.
