I purchased HookPad. I activated the product and then clicked “Go To Hookpad.” Then when I try logging in to HookPad, it keeps saying my password is incorrect even though I know it’s correct. I tried clearing out my cache. I tried different browsers. I tried resetting my password. I can log in to the main HookTheory site, but every time I try logging in to the HookPad product, I get the password error. Please help. Note, I had similar log-in issues the last time I tried to purchase the product (I ended up getting a refund), but I thought I’d try one more time to get it to work. I did email support@hooktheory.com as well, but wanted to post here too in case others have this issue.
I think I have the same problem, I tried to login for the first time since 2020, i could log into the main HookTheory site after a password change but couldn’t log into HookPad (incorrect password error) to access my old “compositions”.
I’m having a similar issue with using Safari. I can log into hooktheory.com and when I click on open hookpad, using “login with Apple” it’s unresponsive. So I’m logged into hook theory but can’t log into hookpad? However, if I use Chrome, I can do both. What’s the deal? I prefer to use Safari.
I finally got it to work. I tried so many things but here’s the process that finally worked:
-
In Google Chrome, I first deleted my browsing history/cache. I then went directly to the Hook Pad product instead of the main Hook Theory site. I tried logging in and got the same “password is incorrect” error.
-
I then clicked the forgot password link. I got the email with the link, pasted it in my browser and changed my password.

After changing the password, you are brought to a new sign-in page (this is to sign into the Hook Theory site). I DID NOT sign in here, which is what I typically would have done. Rather, I closed out of all windows & cleared my browser history/cache. Then I went directly to the Hook Pad product page. Here, I signed in with my new password and it finally worked.
I would recommend working on streamlining and optimizing the activation and log-in process. It may be best to have different log ins for the Hook Theory site and the Hook Pad product. I think it may also be worth looking into developing a desktop app, instead of just a web-based app. They just seem to be more stable and less prone to glitches in my experience.
I reported a similar bug some months back. I don’t know why Hookpad needs a separate login from Hooktheory.com. The login process definitely needs a second look.
Thank you all for your reports. I talked about it with the team. One thing which might cause problems is that you need your username to log into Hookpad, but you can use either your username or your email to log into the website. We’ll work on a solution which is less confusing, but perhaps this helps.
Regards!
